3D Asset and Shader Creation
With multiple clients and the need for the 3D data to be accurate and high fidelity, it is a continuous task to create high quality assets for use in the digital twins. The assets are created in various different software packages and are either bespoken textured or textured using the existing asset library.
There is a need to constantly get high quality output for the most realistic representation of the digital twin.

My Role
- Asset Creation:
Responsible for creating 3D assets, such as buildings, infrastructure, objects, and props, based on CAD models and specifications using Autodesk Maya, 3ds Max, or Blender to model. - Geospatial Accuracy:
Ensures that the 3D assets align with real-world geospatial data and are accurate representations of the physical environment. This involves referencing CAD models, site surveys, and geographical information systems (GIS) data to ensure proper scaling, positioning, and orientation of the assets. - Shader Development:
Develops shaders to apply realistic materials, textures, and lighting effects to the 3D assets. Using Unreal Engine's Material Editor and custom HLSL to create and fine-tune shaders that accurately represent the physical properties of materials in the digital twin environment. - Texture Mapping and UV Unwrapping:
Perform texture mapping and UV unwrapping to ensure that textures and materials are properly applied to the 3D assets. This process involves optimizing the UV layout of the assets to minimize distortion and maximize texture resolution. - Optimization and Performance:
Optimize the 3D assets and shaders to ensure efficient performance in real-time rendering engines. This includes texture atlasing, asset instancing and tileset generation to improve performance without sacrificing visual quality. - Quality Control and Testing:
Conduct thorough testing and quality control checks to ensure that the 3D assets and shaders meet the desired level of accuracy, realism, and visual fidelity. Verify that the assets align with the CAD models and maintain geospatial accuracy throughout the digital twin environment. - Collaboration with CAD and GIS Teams:
Collaborate closely with CAD designers, architects, and GIS specialists to exchange data, align on specifications, and ensure the accuracy and consistency of the digital twin representation. Communicate effectively to address any discrepancies or issues that arise during the asset creation process. - Documentation and Asset Management:
Maintain proper documentation of the asset creation process, including file organization, naming conventions, and version control. Ensure that assets are properly catalogued and easily accessible for future reference or updates. - Continuous Learning and Improvement:
Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, tools, and techniques related to 3D asset creation and shader development. Actively seek opportunities to improve their skills and apply new technologies to enhance the accuracy and realism of digital twins
